How to Have the Best Eco-Friendly Wedding

When an engaged couple are excitedly planning their wedding, there can be thousands of ideas bouncing around in their brains, and to-do lists the length of a leg. One important question that has risen to the forefront in recent years, is ‘how do we create a beautiful wedding that doesn’t harm the environment?’ We have gathered some tips and ideas on how to plan a wedding that is eco-friendly.

1. Location: Local Park

Choosing a park or preserve not only gives you a beautiful spot to get married, but it also contributes financially and gives exposure to a place devoted to environmental stewardship.

2. Hire Local Vendors

Choose local businesses, friends or friends of friends to help with cooking, baking, preparing, etc.

3. Arrange Sustainably Sourced Flowers

Visit the local farmers market, florist or ask a talented friend to create a beautiful .arrangement  using reused vases and jars

4. Choose Compostable or Recyclable Dinnerware

Amazon offers many different alternatives and styles (see link below)

5. Use Recycled Paper

Save-the-dates, invitations, programs, menus, and thank-you cards can quickly add up to a whole lot of paper. When possible, post information such as directions on your wedding website instead of using an additional piece of paper.

6. Get thrifty

Scour flea markets and thrift stores for forgotten treasures and give them a second life as wedding décor.

7. Dispose wisely

Work with your venue or planner to set up a disposal system that includes recycle containers for cans and bottles and a compost bin for biodegradable substances, including fruits, vegetables, and plants.

8. Donate leftovers

Chilled leftovers of unserved food from your rehearsal dinner or reception may be dropped off at foodbanks and charity organisations.

9. Shuttle/carpool guests

Providing after-party transportation for guests in buses, vans, or trolleys is not only safer, but it also decreases the number of vehicles (and therefore, fuel) used.

Below are some of the best and most popular eco-friendly wedding items on Amazon.

Palm Leaf Plates – Disposable, Compostable, Natural

4.9/5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Helpful review: ” These plates are a really cool and beautiful idea! I like the idea that they’re built from leaves, and every plate has a slightly different “pattern”, which adds to the uniqueness of the plates. I beat them up upon arrival by putting a hot, saucy dish in it, and it held up very well, and wasn’t too hot from the bottom either. I even rinsed the plate after eating they held up much better than other disposable paper/plastic plates that I’ve used. Brought them home and my parents were impressed as well! They used them to put out snacks and candies for the holidays. Awesome product!” – Jason C

4.9/5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Helpful Review: ” I’ve now ordered and re-ordered from Ecovita and was compelled to write a positive review. Very sturdy quality, no smell and stamped right on every utensil is the word “100% Compostable”. I get my proper marketing message out, the forks pick up everything and knives cut a steak! A customer asked me for a few so that they could take camping (good idea). Box came with 380 pieces so I was happy to accommodate. I’ve tried many – but these are best in the market.” – James Walsh

Helpful review: ” These are a great size and nice and clear, plus sturdy. When you need to use disposable glassware for safety or convenience this is a nice option as it’s more sustainable than the old plastic stuff. And if you didn’t know this wasn’t the old plastic stuff, you wouldn’t know! I’ve purchased these twice now and would buy again. It’s the small everyday choices that can add up to real impact and you don’t have to compromise on quality!” – Anne C.
